Conover was tasked with the job to redesign banners for the Cedros Avenue Design District, located in Solana Beach, CA. The banners were a difficult shape to work with. Cedros Avenue based the architecture of many of its buildings to mimic airport hangars. This area had a history of the navy using this region to dock their planes in these hangars. The banners were designed around this shape as well. A half-circle that stretched from one side of the street to the other. Instead of creating the design to fit this space, I chose to try to think outside of the space. I used the bottom portion of the banner as a horizon line to align the type across. There were three banners positioned along the street, so I chose to create different colored banners for each. The "O" in Cedros depicts the sun rising and setting, I selected each color to corrolate with the color of the sky as the sun sets. If you drive south to north on Cedros Avenue, you would see the sun setting. If you drive north to south on Cedros Avenue, you would see the sun rising. They ended up not selecting ours, but one with palm trees in it.
